This was the second time the country won the award, the first time being in 2007. Proven and established foreign companies in the call center industry are credited for the recognition since they chose to continuously offshore their services to the country.

“The award highlights the tremendous achievement of the BPO industry which was attained in a very short time,” said Trade and Industry Secretary Peter B. Favila, as he expressed gratitude to UK’s National Outsourcing Association for the award. The National Outsourcing Association is the recognized and respected industry association for the outsourcing industry in United Kingdom.

The Best Offshoring Destination Awards was given during the 6th Annual National Outsourcing Destination Awards held at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in Central London, England on October 15, 2009. The Philippines emerged as the winner against four other shortlisted countries: Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Russia, and Egypt. All the countries were evaluated based on the factors of country advantages, interest of UK firms, status of U.S. market penetration, as well as the available areas for outsourcing in the country.

Outsourcing in the Philippines covers a wide variety of services such as information technology, transcription, design, animation, and call center. Favila also mentioned that the growth of BPOs also helps the industries of real estate and telecommunications. He noted that the key reasons for the continued success of BPOs in the country are the Filipinos’ English proficiency and world-class telecommunications and real estate industries.

Outsource-Philippines, a fast growing player offering a variety of KPO solutions, and FilWeb Asia, a global provider of outsourcing solutions, agreed on a collaborative research to further advance the growing industry of KPO in the Philippines. When asked if there will be no friction between them considering that they are industry rivals, Myra Caayao, Outsource-Philippines’ Administrative Manager, said that it is not an issue at all. “The outsourcing industry is driven by healthy competition, not only within the country, but also in other regions. It is this competition that will pave the way to create innovative solutions from which other industries can also benefit.
